BAUBLES AND BLISS FROM GRAND MANAN

Greetings from Grand Manan!

Grand Manan is an island in the Bay of Fundy, which is where I live with my husband Jan and our retired racing greyhound Toby.

I make flame worked glass beads and exciting jewelry which I sell at "Seawind Beads", my little studio/shop on the island. Here there is always a warm welcome for all my friends and customers!

Happy sailing to Grand Manan!

New Year's Resolutions

Does anyone still make resolutions at the beginning of a new year?  I do.  I can't help myself.
I childishly look at the sea of time which is 2012 stretching forward and away from me in a large curve into the next fall and winter.  So much hope, so much summer light, so many things I can make and do!  What a gift: a new year and a new beginning.

A new beginning for my business that is. So many new designs dancing around in my head, waiting to be born. One of my resolutions is to start an idea board in the studio. This coming week.  Another resolution is to keep better pictorial records, for in 2011 I made very few pictures of my work. Another resolution is to be more available year round for my customers who are permanent Grand Manan residents (as we are, .. in fact I love the winters here). The way it has been up to now, I work hard all winter, all spring and through the summer. Then come September I'm low on stock and sooo tired!  Can I become more disciplined, maybe get someone to help me?  Can my business support that,... the help that is?  One thing is sure, I do not want to buy and sell, I want to make and sell and there's only one me, with one pair of hands.

2012 will be my 7th year in business on Grand Manan. Many of my customers have become wonderful friends who return every year or every 2 or 3 years. Such a joy to see them returning to our beautiful island!!  They come from all walks of life from all over North America and I can honestly say I love them all.   Through this blog, maybe, we'll be able to stay in touch.

In any case, I want to share the journey. Working alone can be just that, alone...
